Kathy Landing Placed on Top National Republican Congressional Committee List
Friday, August 16, 2019
WASHINGTON, DC - The National Republican Congressional Committee announced today that Kathy Landing, Conservative Republican candidate for Congress in South Carolina’s First District, has been selected as an “On the Radar” candidate for the Committee’s 2020 Young Guns program.
The Young Guns program mentors and supports top-tier Republican candidates in races across the country and works to provide them with the necessary tools to run successful, winning campaigns against their Democratic opponents. The program requires candidates to work towards specific goals and meet benchmarks throughout the election cycle to ensure their campaigns remain competitive, well-funded and communicative within their districts.
The placement of Landing on the top national Republican list to date in the campaign follows Landing’s two-to-one cash on hand advantage over her closest fellow primary challengers at the end of 2019 Q2 and the launch of attack ads against Landing by a Washington special interest group aligned with incumbent Democrat Congressman Joe Cunningham.
“I am honored that our campaign’s efforts to date have not only built strong support from our neighbors in South Carolina’s First District but have also been recognized by Leader Kevin McCarthy, Chairman Tom Emmer, and the National Republican Congressional Committee,” said Landing.“We have the leading campaign in this race, and we will continue to do everything necessary to win back this seat for South Carolina conservatives, working families, and sensible solutions.”
In making the announcement, McCarthy highlighted the party’s commitment to recruit the best candidates to win in 2020.
“It’s clear the 2020 election will be a choice between two futures: a future of more freedom or government control,” said McCarthy. “The new socialist Democrats are embracing policies that are in direct conflict with the needs and priorities of the American people: more taxes, more spending, more government, and less freedom. Simply put, this is theft.
In stark contrast, Americans’ priorities are Republican priorities. This is why we are recruiting the best to compete in 2020 and I am proud to welcome each of these candidates to the Young Guns program. I remain focused on ensuring they have the resources they need to win, and I look forward to seeing them on the campaign trail.”
